Mérida is a beautiful city with over a million people. It boasts a superb range of classic colonial buildings and a vibrant cultural life.  Music and dancing are featured almost daily in the life of its citizens. At the same time Merida offers a comprehensive range of modern services and facilities such as shopping malls, auto dealerships and top quality hotels, restaurants and leisure facilities.

Progreso located just 16 miles North of Merida is accessed by a great 4 lane highway. The Port of Progreso is the largest port in the state and has a pier which extends out into the Gulf 4 miles. This enormous pier greets visitors from different cruise lines weekly. Progreso has beautiful beaches with great restaurants. At sunset you can walk to the amphitheater and catch local artists in a play or even a concert with no cost to the public.

Chelem has been a fishing village since its founding and is an up and coming destination for American and Canadian residents. It offers beautiful beaches and only a 15 minute drive west  of Progreso. Chelem offers fresh sea food restaurants, hotels, bars and just an all around great atmosphere for living an affordable beach lifestyle.

Chicxulub is located 4 miles east of Progreso and has a good choice of homes for sale and rent .Many Yucatecos (Yucatecan People) have homes in this area as it was the original destination outside of Progreso. The area offers nice beaches and with the local fisherman you are almost always going to be able to get your sea food before it even hits the market. The majority of the homes in Chicxulub are owned by locals which gives it a nice feeling.

Telchac Puerto is 32 km to the east of Progreso and a 45 minute drive from Merida, the area of Telchac Puerto is  best known for its beautiful waters and beaches which make even the locals feel they are blessed. Telchac has a small town square, hotel, restaurants, and internet cafe.  For the people who do not want to live in the middle of the town their  best option  is to live on the beach.
